High Crime Rate Alert; In Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
It would be unrighteous for any one to say that the Crime rate in Obot Akara LGA. Of Akwa Ibom State is below 95%, recently I traveled with a friend to a particular Village in Obot Akara, but could not spend one night there because I was advised by the persons I went to visit not to spend a night, because they feared what the night may bring, especially when I drove in with a car, my friend who was a total stranger was surprised, according to one elderly man, he told us that you can be beaten very badly for having N10,000 cash at home, he added that this crime constantly repeat itself for over 3years and the sad thing is that the State Government has totally ignored the area where the crime is so intense, In a particular village called Ubon Akwa that is surrounded by many other villages; eg. Ibiakpan, Okop, Abiakpo, Ikot Inemme etc. but shared the same boundary with a part of Abia State, the Crime rate in the Village is so intense that the villagers now barricade their doors with steel irons, yet safety is not guaranteed, they now have to forcibly go to bed before 8pm every day, the most worrisome part is that the so called kidnappers now kidnapped any old man or woman they noticed that the son or daughter staying outside the village can at least send N5,000 in a month for the up keep of the old man/woman and request for such a ransom that the child may not be able to take care of in years. People are living in fear, parents warned their wards not to visit for the fear of their lives, and you can hear slow whispering at night because families are awake for the fear of their live.
All this is happening in one Local Government Area, and the Government can not do anything about it, I know they may want to ask where do we start? Why because there is no good route passing through the above villages, the government once tried to construct a good road there but fail badly under the leadership of the former Local Government Chairman who is believed to must have embezzled the fund allocated for the project.
Should millions of people living in that LGA. suffered because of one man?
I am therefore pleading with the State Government, especially the Great Governor; His Excellency Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio to come to the aid of people living in Obot Akara LGA because so many people are dying and many has been subjected to hard suffering.

It will interest all Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians to know that the Government of Governor Godswill Akpabio has work endlessly to shrink
the crime rate in Obot Akara, kidnapping is no longer an epidemic in the Local Government Area, had the police and other government forces tackled the problem headlong for months with some good police men loosing their life's on the course, I want to appreciate Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio and the Nigeria Police force for the job well done. That been said, I want to continue to plead with the present Government and the one that will take over after now to please come to the aid of the people of Obot Akara Local Government, we still have so much bad roads, bad bridges, old schools without good teachers, and even the health centers and police station are far apart.
