BARR. ENOIDEM, WARN THE FORMER SSG UMANA OKON UMANA TO STOP PROMOTING ETHNIC POLITICS IN THE STATE
As more condemnations
continue to trail a recent public outburst credited to a former secretary to
the state government and APC governorship hopeful, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, over
his attack on Governor Godswill Akpabio, the Commissioner for Special Duties,
Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, has described his recent utterances as regrettable,
unfortunate and pitiable.
It would be recalled
that the APC governorship candidate who had served in Akpabio’s government for
six and half years, recently in media briefing, reportedly vowed to make the
governor “account for allegedly misusing the commonwealth of the state.
But in a swift
reaction, Barr. Enoidem, who faulted Umana’s claims, accused the former SSG of
promoting ethnic politics in the state, and enjoined Akwa Ibom people to be
weary of desperate politicians of who do not mean well for the state.
“I expected him to
behave better than he is behaving, because of the level of confidence and trust
himself and the governor shared. His latest outburst shows that human beings
need to be feared,” the Commissioner for Special Duties reasoned.
He furthered that, “our
brother, Umana Umana was part of this government for six and a half years. And
if you go back to history and do a research on all the interviews he had
granted the media up until the time he and the governor had misunderstanding
which resulted in his being relieved of appointment as SSG, you would see that
he was very consistent in his credit to the governor as the best thing that has
ever happened to Akwa Ibom State.”
Enoidem asserted that
Akpabio has been exceptional, “in terms of what the governor has done in the
area of project execution, in terms of appointment which resulted in Umana
being made the SSG from Uyo Senatorial district for six and a half years”.
While condemning Umana
Umana’s latest resort to apply what he described as his character summersault,
the Special Duties Commissioner, reasoned that the continuous unity of the
state cannot be contested on the altar of ethnicity and advised his former
colleague in the state exco, Mr. Umana to desist from his unguarded utterances
against the Governor.
“Apart from being SSG,
Umana was chairman, FGPC and I was privileged to be member. He (Umana) sat as
the clearing house, recommending contracts award to the exco for approval”.
He described him as an
“actor” who was merely a pretender in Akpabio’s government for six and half
years that he served the government.
“You can’t pretend
forever, no matter how smart you think you are. There will be a moment in your
history that a turning point will bring out the real you. God has a way of
orchestrating a moment where the real and true person in you must come out and
God is smarter than all of us”
