Residents of Mobil Housing Estate in Eket where
greeted by a swam of Eket Youths who came out in their numbers to protest
against the decision of Akwa Ibom State Government and ExxonMobil not to share
the oil spill compensation money directly to the youths of the communities
affected by the oil spillage.
The youths who came out with diverse traditional
injunctions ranging from coffin to masquerades blocked the main entrance of the
Mobil Housing Estate carrying placards that read “Mobil Insults Community
with N2.6 Billion out of N26.5 Billion. Prepare for Outcome”.
According to the youths, the state government said
they are using the money for the construction of Eket-Ibeno Road Project.
Their protest has not only disrupted Mobil Housing
Estate Staff from work, it has also thwarted business for Hotels lined-up along
Marina Avenue.
